I am committed to supporting legislation that curbs the effect of climate change, protecting North Carolina’s natural resources, and ensuring the quality of air, water, and land for current and future generations.
The Obama administration made great strides to combat climate change and protect our environment and public lands. The Department of Transportation and the EPA issued new fuel-economy standards, the first meaningful increases in fuel economy for cars and light trucks in decades.
I want to protect and build on President Obama’s progress. We know that climate change is one of our nation’s, our State’s greatest challenges, and that addressing this urgent threat could make America the world’s clean energy superpower and create good-paying jobs.
The North Carolina Piedmont has been blessed with an abundance of nature’s resources: rivers, lakes, rolling hills of forested lands, and fresh air. We have not always been good stewards of these gifts, and it is our campaign promise that, if elected, we will work to preserve and protect them for the future of the planet and all its inhabitants.
It will take all of us acting together — workers and entrepreneurs, scientists and citizens, the public and the private sector — to address the challenge of climate change and seize our clean-energy future.
